Sustainability Officer / Executive
At our Resort, we are dedicated to the 4Cs framework created by The Long Run, which emphasises Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce. This holistic approach guides our efforts to create a sustainable and thriving environment for nature, our team members, guests and local community. We are now looking for a dedicated and passionate Sustainability Officer / Executive who shares our ethos and vision, and will work with our team to help drive our initiatives to the next level. The successful candidate will report to our Resident Manager and Chief of Staff.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sustainability Strategy Development:
Develop and implement sustainability strategies and initiatives aligned with Batu Batu Resort’s mission and the 4Cs framework.
Conduct regular assessments and audits of current practices to identify areas for improvement.
2. Environmental Management:
Oversee the resort’s environmental programs, including waste management, energy efficiency, water conservation, and biodiversity conservation.
Monitor and report on the environmental impact of the resort’s operations.
3. Education and Advocacy:
Educate and train Batu Batu Team Members on sustainability practices and the importance of environmental stewardship.
Promote sustainability awareness through workshops, presentations, and interactive activities.
4. Guest Interaction and Awareness:
Raise guests' awareness about sustainable and regenerative projects at the resort.
Engage with guests through tours, talks, and activities that highlight the resort’s sustainability initiatives and the importance of environmental conservation.
5. Collaboration with Other Departments:
Work closely with other departments to support and integrate sustainability and regeneration projects into daily operations.
Facilitate cross-departmental efforts to ensure that sustainability goals are met across all aspects of the resort’s operations.
6. Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental laws and regulations.
Prepare and present sustainability reports to the management team and stakeholders.
Create regular impact communications for stakeholders (newsletters, blog posts).
7. Community Engagement:
Foster partnerships with local organizations, NGOs, networks and government agencies to support community-based sustainable / regenerative tourism projects.
Lead and participate in community outreach programs and initiatives.
8. Cultural Preservation:
Promote and integrate local culture and traditions into the resort’s operations and guest experiences.
Support initiatives that preserve and celebrate the cultural heritage of the local community and region.
9. Economic Sustainability:
Ensure that sustainability initiatives contribute to the economic viability of the resort.
Identify opportunities for sustainable commerce that benefit both the resort and the local community.
10. Collaboration with Tengah Island Conservation:
Act as a bridge between Batu Batu Resort and NGO Tengah Island Conservation, fostering collaboration on environmental and conservation projects.
Coordinate joint initiatives and activities to enhance the island’s ecological health and biodiversity.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a sustainability role, preferably within the hospitality or tourism industry.
Strong knowledge of sustainability practices, environmental regulations, and green certifications.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to lead projects and work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Passion for environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.
Ability to live and work in an off-grid, remote location.
