The Islanders Council Convenes
As part of our post-Covid reopening work and co-creating our annual strategy, our newly-formed Islanders Council consisting of key staff members from various different departments met in January to brainstorm our goals and actions for 2022.
The five key goals identified as important goals for us this year are:
• Increase revenues
• Strengthen processes
• Staff development and up-skilling
• Create happy teams
• Boost our eco and sustainability efforts
After the brainstorming and discussion key goals, the team used Post-it notes to answer the question, “How might we achieve this goal?” for each individual topic. We used this method as Post-it notes are not only colourful and fun, they allow everyone to get involved, even team members who sometimes feel shy about providing their opinions. We then all voted with stickers and throughout the following week, the Council leaders also brought their team members in to read, post stickers and provide additional suggestions.
There was an excellent range of suggestions ranging from computer courses, staff mentoring and counselling, increased fun activities, more manpower and salary reviews; to strengthening policies on behaviours, harassment and equality.
We are now crafting our 2022 strategy with these inputs in mind, and our Islanders Council will lead key actions moving forward. We looking forward to travelling on the change journey together.
