How we are protecting our guests and staff against COVID-19 at Batu Batu

We are following developments relating to COVID-19 closely and wanted to assure you that we have put in procedures to protect guests and staff alike from exposure based on WHO guidelines. Malaysia has to date found 19 cases of COVID-19. None have been in Mersing or the Johor islands.

The following measures have been set-up to ensure our guests and staff are protected from COVID-19 and that our island stays safe:

a)    We ask all our guests to submit a Travel Declaration Form which is located at the following link: https://forms.gle/e5zzggv2Ykw7mNqn7 prior to arrival. Guests who refuse to submit the declaration will not be permitted to board the boat for Batu Batu. Guests who have travelled to China in the last 14 days will be asked to postpone their trip until after their quarantine period is completed.

b)    Temperature checks at Mersing Jetty are taken for all our guests using a non-contact thermometer by our Mersing representative before registration briefings begin. Temperature checks are also taken for our incoming staff and any incoming contractors. Anyone with a registered temperature higher than 37.5 degrees Celsius will be asked to seek medical advice and will not be able to board the boat to Batu Batu.

c)    Staff temperature checks are conducted once a day and any updates on the novel coronavirus are transmitted on the HR Whatsapp broadcast list.

d)    All our staff have been briefed that it is of utmost importance to immediately report to HR if they have a temperature or are feeling unwell. HR then will immediately arrange for a visit to the panel clinic.

e)    All our guests are temperature checked every morning when they come to the restaurant for breakfast.

We believe that using these methods will go a long way in keeping the island safe and virus-free. We thank our guest for their patience whilst we carry out these procedures.

We further believe that the risks of contracting COVID-19 on our off-grid island with these controls in place are significantly lower than going out in towns and cities where the virus is present. The risk of COVID-19 at Batu Batu is assessed to be very low.

Please keep safe and well,

The Management Team at Batu Batu
