5-Minutes With ...
We started “5 minutes with” because the people at Batu Batu are our greatest asset. I am sure many of you who have stayed with us and have experienced their warmth first-hand would agree.
This week, we kick-start our “5 minutes With” blog series which provides insights into the people behind the smiles. From their favourite foods to fun facts, here’s a bit more on what makes them tick.
To start off, we picked Benny, our Resident Manager and helm of the ship.
Q: Let's start with your favourite color. What is it and why?
A: My favourite colour is khaki. I love it because it’s earthy and calming, blending well with both nature and urban settings. Plus, it has a timeless appeal.
Q: Where were you born?
A: Johor Bahru — I’m a Johorean through and through! I’ve lived all over the region, and being at Batu Batu feels like I’ve come home full circle.
Q: What’s your top food choice?
A: Hainanese chicken rice is my go-to comfort food. There’s something about the simplicity and the flavours that hits the spot for me every time.
Q: What’s your favorite spot on the island?
A: The jetty! It’s where I go to unwind and soak in the views. Its my perfect escape from the hustle and bustle.
Q: We all need some downtime. What do you enjoy doing when you have the chance?
A: Downtime? What’s that? 😆
Q: What’s a quirky fact about you that people might not know?
A: I absolutely hate inflated balloons. They just freak me out and they’re definitely not my favourite party accessory.
(which is great for the job seeing as balloons don’t fit into the “reduce single use” policy)
Q: Batu Batu is a strong advocate of The Long Run’s 4Cs framework of Culture, Community, Conservation and Commerce. How does this resonate with you?
A : Batu Batu’s commitment to the 4Cs framework is frankly, one of the elements that makes it such a special place to work in. How we operate takes these elements into consideration in every way — big or small.
My wish is to nurture our Batu Batu community through training, work and play. Together with TIC (Tengah Island Conservation), I would also would like to weave more sustainability and conservation elements into our daily operations and life on the island. We are a big family on a little island, and working together like one will ultimately add to the long term sustainability of our business and operations.
So now that you know Benny a little more, if you see him at the jetty when you next visit taking in the views, do stop and say hello!
